The Ultimate Guide to Choose High-Quality Chia Seeds

The Ultimate Guide to Choose High-Quality Chia Seeds

Chia seeds have been around for hundreds of years and are now gaining popularity more than ever. Their hype is for a definite good reason. Chia seeds are high in omegas  3 and 6, protein, fat, fiber, and antioxidants - Everything you need to make your brain and body happy!

Let’s face it though, chia seeds are not cheap. So how do you make sure you are making the most of your chia seeds purchase?

Here are a few tips on what to look for when buying the best quality Chia seeds!

1. Only buy black/white chia seeds (Avoid brown chia seeds)

Brown Chia seeds are immature, they have not grown in the right environmental conditions to mature properly. Not only that but they also have a bitter taste and are low in nutrients. As long as your seeds are white or black, you can rest assured that you are getting the richest source of nutrients chia seeds can provide.

2. Choose Chia seeds from Mexico, Ecuador, or Bolivia

These countries have been producing chia seeds for hundreds of years. Their location provides the most optimum conditions for the best grown and most nutritious chia seeds. Chia seeds need to be grown at a specific temperature, amount of water, and length of sunlight exposure. Bolivia especially has dry forests with highly fertile soil and an optimum combination of rainfall and altitude. This makes the perfect condition for growing supreme chia seeds - high in protein and omega 3 fatty acids.

3. Look for 99.9% Purity

If chia seeds are not this pure, they may contain potential impurities such as weed, stalks, stones, and leaves. Chia seeds also absorb moisture very easily, which means they are susceptible to molds and yeast. It’s almost impossible to spot these impurities in the bag, therefore, always look for at least 99.9% purity as they have been thoroughly tested.

4. Buy Only 100% Raw & Unprocessed Chia seeds

Raw chia seeds are in their best form. Processing them such as exposure to high heat reduces their quality and nutritional content.

5. Choose Organic certified chia seeds

Organic chia seeds do not have any harmful chemicals or preservatives.  Using sustainable farming with no pesticides or GMOs is better for one's health and the environment. Organic foods have high food safety and quality standards. They are tested by third-party laboratories and verified that each batch is clean, pure, and chemical-free, as well as meeting the nutritional criteria.
